Euro Tour – Brussels, Belgium and Paris, France – Day 11 and 12
August 4 – 5, 2015
Today we headed to Paris. We got in really late and went to our hostel in checked in. This is by far the weirdest hostel we had stayed in up to this point and the weirdest we would stay in. We had six roommates including a horrible couple and a man in his 60s!
Not a good night in this hostel.
The next morning we got up early to start our day. We went to the Palace of Versailles first in the essence of time and it took several hours of standing in line in the hot sun before we made it inside. The extravagance of the palace and the grounds was absolutely incredible. We got some Laduree macaroons here too. Yummy.
After touring the Palace we headed back into the main part of Paris and went to Montparnasse Tower and went to the roof to see an incredible view of Paris and the Eiffel Tower! The tour guides awkwardly tried to get us to take couple pics… After we went to see the Pantheon, Shakespeare and Co. Bookstore and the Notre Dame Cathedral and the Latin Quarter (as inspired by our Chilean friends). We headed back to the hostel briefly before heading out to the Eiffel Tower for a picnic of champagne, beer, Pringles, and leftover Belgian truffles.
The next morning we got up early and went to the Louvre. We went in a back entrance and didn’t wait in line AT ALL. This was the best trick of the entire six weeks by far. It was amazing. I thought it was seriously a joke that we were getting in that easy, like what’s the catch?! There was none. We walked around the Louvre for a couple hours and saw the infamous Mona Lisa. Then we walked around Champs de Elysees and saw the Arc du Triomph. We also saw Moulin Rouge and the Eiffel Tower again from a distance. Then we headed back to the hostel exhausted and went to tour the nearby Sacre Couer where we saw some really cool street performers. With the level of exhaustion I was experiencing though, this hike to the top of the hill to the church almost killed me.
We went to bed early tonight.
