T-Minus 3 Days till China
It’s hard to believe, but in just 3 and a half short days I will be boarding a 14.5 hour flight to Shanghai, China! This seemed like such a distant future that I can’t believe it’s almost time!
So much to do, so much to pack into my small carry-on!
In case you were wondering why I am going to Shanghai for spring break instead of the obvious Cabo San Lucas: I am one of 42 students who are going to Shanghai as part of an international supply chains business class offered at Cal Poly. This is a really incredible opportunity to not only experience another culture, but to learn about business application as well, which is really cool to see as a business major!
My professors lined up some really awesome tours and it will be a full week of learning, touring, shopping, and enjoying the Shanghai nightlife with my friends!
Throughout this last quarter though, the professors have made us a little wary that we might end up in the hospital! Telling us horror stories of people falling into manholes, being extorted at tea houses, and burning themselves on fire shots… So pray for my safety and I’ll do my best to come home in one piece!
I only know about three words/phrases in Mandarin: “Hello”, “Thank You”, and “Too Expensive.” I’m going to have to try my hand at haggling and I’m not too confident in my abilities, but they say it’s supposed to be a fun experience. I might just have to find the most skilled bargainer in the class and latch on to them for the week…
Ah! I’m so excited!
Follow along with my journey here!
xoxo J
